Case study ✦ Wasla Cash

One Arabic-first wallet for consumers, merchants, and agents.

Wasla Cash is a digital wallet where money moves by QR scan: instant person-to-person transfers, virtual cards for online purchases, bill payments and top-ups, international remittance, and an agent network that bridges cash and digital. AppDevs engineered the platform.

The context

In cash-heavy markets, the wallet has to meet people where they are.

A digital wallet only works if money can get in and out of it. Where card penetration is low and cash is the default, that means agents, trusted local operators who convert cash to balance and back, alongside QR payments that need nothing but a phone on either side.

Wasla Cash needed all three roles in one platform: consumers with a full-service wallet, merchants collecting by QR and payment link, and agents running cash-in and cash-out. Each role gets its own flows, limits, and controls, on one account model.

What was built

A full-service wallet with three roles on one account model.

01

QR wallet with instant transfers

A mobile wallet where users hold balances and send or receive money instantly by scanning a QR code, with no cash required at either end.

02

Virtual cards

Virtual cards issued from the wallet for online purchases, extending a local wallet balance to global card-accepting checkouts.

03

Everyday services in the wallet

Bill payments and mobile-credit top-ups built into the same balance. These are the recurring transactions that keep a wallet in daily use.

04

Remittance and currency exchange

International money transfers plus peer-to-peer currency exchange between users, on the same account model as domestic payments.

05

Merchant collection tools

QR acceptance and shareable payment links for merchants, with withdrawal to linked bank accounts.

06

Agent network

A third user role, agents acting as local transaction hubs, bridging cash and digital money where card infrastructure is thin, with their own flows and controls.
